The Clyde River, named after New Lanark on the Clyde in Scotland, and is a tributary of the Mississippi. Our early townships are named after founders, military officers or politicians of this era such as Dalhousie, Ramsay, Sherbrooke, Darling and Lavant. Lumber, grist and woolen mills powered by the Clyde and Mississippi Rivers, brought prosperity to the area, with the Village of Lanark at its centre. Behind each name is a tale of history waiting to be told.
